About the Course
This workshop has been designed and directed by Dr Ashfaque Sorathia (Dr Ash), who has worked as an NHS Consultant in Emergency Medicine in the UK and has been teaching MRCEM candidates for over a decade. He has trained more than 5,000 IMGs in the UK, with over 800 now working as Emergency Medicine Specialists or Consultants.
The course is based on Dr Ash's famous “4 Ps Procedure Approach”:
P1 – Preparation Before the Procedure
P2 – Preparation of the Trolley
P3 – Performing the Procedure
P4 – Post-Procedure Care
This structured approach has helped many candidates perform procedures confidently and pass the OSCE examination successfully.
While history taking, communication, counselling, and resuscitation can be practised online, procedural skills must be practised hands-on using mannequins before the examination, as failing a procedure station can significantly affect the overall result.
This workshop focuses on high-yield procedures that are repeatedly tested in the MRCEM OSCE examination. Candidates will also learn:
• How to perform procedures safely
• How to teach juniors, nurses, parents, and relatives
• Indications and contraindications
• Complications and safety-netting
• Communication during procedures

Practical procedural skills cannot be mastered through reading or online learning alone. Spending a full day practising these essential procedures in a hands-on environment will build your confidence, improve your technique, and help you perform safely and successfully in the examination and in real clinical practice.

The course is directed and supervised by Dr. Ash, a leading EM educator in the UK with over 16 years of experience. Dr. Ash has trained more than 5,000 physicians in the UK, including over 1,000 EM physicians for MRCEM and FRCEM exams. Many of his trainees now work as specialists and consultants across the UK.
